My College Magazine Analysis

The magazine I created, shown to the right, is my first attempt at creating a magazine cover. Obviously there is a lot that could be improved but there are aspects that I thought worked quite well. The main and only image on the cover is of a real life student in a real life student environment in a classroom. As this is a college magazine I think this works well as it’s not over posed and it depicts students, as students; how they should be. I wanted to use a real student so the image would be age appropriate and relatable. The props used are also I imagine, what all students would have and use themselves on a day to day basis. For the title, I have chosen quite a simple font as I didn’t want it to look too over the top and draw attention away from the image. The text in the star however, as its smaller I felt I could get away with using a more modern font, which I think appeals to the young student audience. I also tried to make it a bit more interesting and eye catching, by doubling up the ‘M’ for both the words ‘form’ and ‘magazine’. Although I think the above points work quite well, I’m not happy with how the overall look is very amateur. It’s quite obvious it’s not professional, and I think it looks slightly too simple and no real technique has gone into making it. When I create a music magazine I will definitely pit a lot of effort into trying to make it look professional.
