Institutional data for the UK magazine industry

Today the UK magazine industry is worth a massive £8 billion, even though it has been steadily declining since 2001 dues to the rise of internet technology and the information so readily available. The number of current main branded music magazines being circulated stands at 62,048,488, which happens to be 13.31 million fewer than in 2009. However fortunately for UK publishers, there has been a 1.3% decrease in internet magazine sales year on year. Although this still makes producing a magazine and aiming it at a niche market a risky and quite challenging task. This means that any marketing, and other competitions need to observed very carefully and the new magazine would have to have something different which appeals to its target audience. But astonishingly, 2,600 magazines in the UK are purchased every minute of every day, resulting in the spend of £2.6 billion each year.
